I, Thabiso Senamela had a stroke at the age of 18. It was during my matric year in 2013 during the final examinations.

All I remember prior to the stroke was that I was on my way to buy a bus ticket so I could go to school on Monday. Apparently, I fell on my way to buy the ticket and cracked my skull.

I was taken to Akasia Hospital where I had a neurological surgery. My family was told if I don't show any signs that I'm still alive in a week they will have to switch off the machine. Luckily, I showed signs that I'm not brain dead, so they stabilized me and I stayed in ICU for two more weeks.

After my operation I started having epilepsy fits twice or three times a week, my hand started shaking and I couldn't walk long distances or properly. I started going to physiotherapy and taking epileptic medication.

Currently, I'm still taking medication and I get epilepsy fits three or four times a year. I can now walk properly; I went back to finish my matric and I'm currently in university.

Stroke is unfortunate but it is not the end of the road, or it shouldn't be an excuse not to reach your goals.
